Resumo da Palestra
Despite being a relatively new field of study, robots are currently present in various aspects of the construction of modern life. However, most applications involving robots are still generally limited by the following key features: for safety, robots work isolated from humans, they operate in environments that are well structured and fully known, and robots are constrained to performing simple repetitive tasks. Yet, the future of robots moves towards releasing robots from mostly repetitive tasks and bringing them to close, fluid and robust interaction with other robots and humans in less constrained environments.
Motivated by the new challenges that arise from the envisioned scenario and the considerable amount of work to be done to achieve such features, the Automation and Robotics Laboratory (LARA) at UnB is working to contribute to the understanding and advancement of control techniques for robot manipulators in the sense of robustness, optimality and flexibility—cornerstone features for the required level of performance and robotic autonomy. To cope with these challenges, we are exploiting the advantages of dual quaternion algebra to model and control the robot coupled translation and rotation kinematics, since a proper and efficient framework for robot motion is paramount for improving the robotic system performance.
In this talk, I will present the research conducted in the LARA at UnB towards the formalisation of the control theory using unit dual quaternions applied to robotics—contributing to the ongoing effort of unfolding tools for the future of robotics. We have addressed robust, optimal and flexible control techniques applied to robot manipulators using dual quaternion algebra, and the problems that may arise during task execution: kinematic singularities and topological problems (solved using hybrid control theory). In addition, I’ll also present the ongoing work on optimal nonlinear estimation for robotic systems and the control of robotic systems under time-varying delays.
